The email is always in the text form from the very Begining, some may call it old technology also and off course it is, but I think it will remain in text always. To change its other features along with email I think that is important. In a website which has the text message facility is considered to be good one .In marketing we will do things which are always dynamic, innovative and creative.e.g at first customers used the hotmail then they switched to yahoo and nowadays a lot to Gmail. Because Gmail is more informative and innovative. Gmail have the maximum size, quicker uploading and attachment, and more than that use of the Google messenger in ones inbox. Using Gmail one can easily switch to Google, orkut and YouTube as well by entering the Id once. In Gmail one can also upload funny videos, music, Mp3, and also get access to the whole world communities. In short it’s a complete personal website having profile, photos, videos etc and also doesn’t need to install direct X or other popup blockers etc. In short to use such email and website which is speedy, simple to use, more funny, more availability of information, open to criticism and suggestion and more than that having more comparative advantage over others.

I've been thinking a lot about a topic regarding emails lately. Are emails really an old technology already? Will the mobile technology/instant messaging will take over leaving emails behind?

A significant advantage of emails over phone calls or even messengers, I can say, is that a writer can think over/retype/take time to write anything, whereas phone call is you say it out and that's it. you can't really modify it afterwards.

What i was thinking is what if we bring this voice mail technology into emails? Just think about this: if you could leave a voice-email or even video email, (not just written text) do you think it would renovate the emails, and would lead to success?

I think e-mail has many advantages compared to IM and such, especially in professional situations.

For example, in business or at work you often want to be able to at least somewhat carefully formulate your message, which as Eleonora pointed out is not really possible with IM, video or voice.

However, I believe that the greatest advantage of e-mail is that it offers the users a kind of accountability. Due to the format of the medium you are expected to have thought through mails, and thus you are actually accountable for what you say in e-mails.

To me the accountability paired with the fact that everyone can easily view old e-mails makes e-mail the preferred way of communicating whenever dealing with more serious matters.

Most of the time I'm actually not comfortable communicating over IM, phone or any other direct communication method in such situations.

Rahat, I like your post about how email is integrating with other aspects of the internet like social networking (Orkut).
I agree with both Eleonora and Filip that email may remain indispensable. To me, email is the primary means of communication with "the outside world". I communicate with colleagues and students almost exclusively via email.
While social networking and chat are useful for communicating with family and friends, I personally cannot see these sites replacing my "business" communications.

Well sure the email is old technology. It even predates the internet being a part the internets predecessor ARPAnet, which would make the technology like 40 years old now. Even so I have to agree with former comments that the email is and always will be irreplacable. Its form and features may change and evolve, but it will still remain an email in its roots.
Communication in text is quick and simple, but with high information transfer and little room for misunderstanding.
And especially now with the breaking through of mobile internet, I believe the email is closing in to becoming the perfect communication technology. Taking time moderation in consideration, e-mails are instant, as in it reaches the receiver within a few moments, but on the same time the receiver can choose to reply now, or later. It gives room for well thought through replies, eliminating rushed answers that later may be regretted.
I think that no matter what new features are added the e-mail in its most basic form will be around for quite some time to come.

Ya~sure. E-mail is old technology that are still uses. Even we have better communication system than E-mail, E-mail isn't just storage for mial. It could be ads or information. I agree with filip's idea that e-mail isn't just e-mail.

For me, e-mail actually feels a bit old and outdated in many situations. However, for some situations it is still the best alternative.
When communicating with another person i very much disslike e-mail. I like to be able to have a dialoge with the other person, and with e-mail that doesn't really happen. As i see it, e-mail is like leaving a message on someones answering machine, while IM is like making a phonecall.

Other people have commented that e-mail is good for formal letters becaus you have the time to really think and formulate. I actually see this as a dissadvantage, becaus it very often leads to strict inpersonal messages becaus of overthinking. You become a different person.

The role that e-mails have for me now days is more or less like my mailbox at my appartment. I get receipts form purchases or user information from other online ventures. Also for general information from different organisations i'm involved in.

E-mail, to many people, might look like a rather old tech, but, still, and will be an important communication tools for all of us. E-mail marketing is easy to target with virtuall zero money. However, more and more information overload phenomena becomes a problem. For example, for gmail, you really don't need to delete even spam mail since you have enough space, but, this creates problems to find 'real e-mails.' Moving forward, as an e-mail user, we would need some better filtering system.
